About West Bali

Medewi beach like other beachs in Bali, promising to enjoy. The Medewi name take from the village where the beach berada. Aproximately in 1912 Medewi Village founded.

Medewi beach have a good wave if you like surfing . West of Medewi Beach that a lot of fishermen boat there, enhance the view so it more beautifull. In afternoon you can enjoy sunset. If just want to enjoy the view of the beach there a places that made so you can enjoy the sea and it waves. From year to year tourist that visiting Medewi Beach is increasing, a lot of them come to surfing and some other come to enjoying the view, in a holiday many local tourist visiting this beach with their friend or family.

To get medewi beach is very easy, it’s located about 100 m from Denpasar-Gilimanuk highway, that part of Medewi village, in the district Jembrana. From Denpasar it about 72 km, in 90 minuets, you can take a bus or hire a driver to bring you here, you can stop by Soka Beach if you want but I don’t suggesting this if you take a bus to Medewi Beach because you should find another bus to Medewi Beach. During the trip to Medewi, you’ll see many rice field it make a beautifull view, it’s so refreshing if you want to stop just a minuets and take the fresh air , and if there is croping session you can see unique view that the farmer crop the rice.

Facility and Accomodation

The road to Medewi Beach is very good, you can drive a car or motorbike, the tourism grow is quite fast , it has hotel, restaurant, pool, but if you try to find any souvenir seller, there is no one sell it. There is two Cottages (like the picture in left side) Puri Dajuma Cottages and Medewi Beach Cottages.

• Puri Dajuma Cottages
• The 18 top-class cottages built on a cape surrounded by two sand beaches and a typical Balinese fisherman village, with private gardens, indoor and outdoor bathroom and a panoramic view of the ocean. Puri Dajuma is located 70 km from Bali International Airport. This means a one and a half hour drive along a scenic route through rice fields and coconut and banana plantations with a view of the ocean guaranteed to "take your breath away"

• Medewi Beach Cottages conveniently located in the western part of the island Bali in the beautiful nature and magnificent overlooks to the Indian Ocean, the superb surfing on high, long rolling waves and also a romantic sunset and softly tropical evenings touch..

The entrance spot toNusa Menjangan are located in labuan lalang, in this place you can rent a boat to bring you to the snorkeling spot or to Nusa Menjangan. From Labuhan Lalang to Menjangan island it takes around 45 minutes on the calm sea. Diving gear shops for rent are plenty at Labuhan Lalang, as well as local restaurants and souvenir shops. Nusa Menjangan is a 1,5km long and 500m wide island in the north-western Bali national park. The island is a game reserve park for birds and the under water world around it. Only a limited amount of divers are allowed to visit the island daily. All dive sites are only a short boat trip away.

The reef surrounds the island at a depth of 1 to 10m and stretches out for about 20 meters before dropping almost vertically to a depth of 40m.

The western end features a deep lagoon with a slightly stronger current. Around Nusa Menjangan currents are usually weak to moderate. Menjangan is a perfect spot for beginners and a magnificent spot for snorkeling. Menjangan's underwater world surely deserves to be listed as one of the world's top dive sites. According to a coral count performed by Jacques-Yves Cousteau, this small island alone features more coral species than the entire Caribbean! Napoleon fish, turtles, bump head parrotfish and grouper are commonly seen. In deeper water you may be able to say “hello” to white tip- and black tip reef sharks and barracudas. Lucky divers will find eagle rays, sunfish and even whale sharks. Menjangan is a bit off the main tourist routs but it is definitely a highly recommendable dive- and snorkeling site.

Menjangan island is unpopulated, but there is an old temple, supposed to originated from 14th century named " Pura Giri Kencana." During the expedition of Majapahit kingdom of Java in 1343 AD, it is believed that a boat was wrecked with their relics are still on sea bed. It is believed to have the magic influence. If you lucky, in certain day, you can watching the Hindus praying at Pura Giri Kencana in Nusa Menjangan Island.

Some Snorkeling Picture at Nusa Menjangan

Jayaprana grave located at Teluk Terima in Buleleng District (part of West Bali) ,a short distance down the road, it's about 4 hours travel from Singaraja, if you came from Tabanan it about 2-3 hours and it's very worth to visit, jayaprana grave have a beatifull view , a Jayaprana statue, lot of monkey but not much like in sangeh :D , a well that the rumours said have a very fragrant smell, when Galungan, Kuningan or certain day in Hindu the people ususally go there to pray.

Jayaprana it self is a legend, he is a loyal servant of King Kalianget who raise him since kid because jayaprana is an orphan, one day jayaprana meet his love Layonsari who is daughter of Banjar(1) Sekar 'Jero Bendesa(2)' , not so long then they married, but not for long , because Kalianget king is secretly obsessive with Layonsari. With all kind of trick the king try to sunder this couple, one day jayaprana send to Teluk Terima with General Sawunggaling, that stab jayaprana in the jungle. When the king know that jayaprana has died, the king try lying to layonsari that he's not who kill her husband and persuade layonsari to marry with him, but layonsari knwo that the king is behind of jayaprana dead, layonsari refuse the king and then commit suicide, the king is very angry, he killed people around him, finally he died in his own people hand. That what i know about the story of Jayaprana and it very famous arround Bali, so if you came to Bali particulary west bali (Buleleng or Jembrana) try to visiting Jayaprana Grave

Woagh Galungan(23/01/2008) and Kuningan has come , Happy Galungan and Kuningan Day to who celebreting , including me. Galungan is very important day for Hindu People's especially in Indonesia, the day that good defeat bad, good in hindu called Dharma and bad called Adharma, the war (Dharma v Adharma ) is not phisically but mentally (the bad guy called Bhuta Kalla), Bhuta Kala try to attack,defeat,and overcome our mind, if that happen we called that 'leteh' or we can say that we 'dirty', because if that happen our mind, act and canfab can result bad things to us and other, in this day (Galungan) the God send creed might and mental holiness to defeat 'Adharma'. The Core of Galungan is unite the mental might to gain clear institution and mental, because with clear insitution and mental we can defeat 'Adharma'

Tomorow(22/01/08) is the Penampahan day , Galungan basicly have 3 days , Penampahan, Galungan and Manis Galungan.

• Penampahan Day, women is very busy to make preparation for ceremony, like 'Sesajen' (offering, but that not exactly the meaning of sesajen) that will be held in Galungan and the man made 'Lawar' ,'Sate' and other various traditional Baliness food that some use for 'Sesajen' and after finishing making food , they continue to build 'Penjor' that symbol we pray to our God, i like this day because so many food to eat :D, that rare in daily (usualy you can buy at traditional baliness restaurant, like sate or lawar for example )
  
• Galungan, is the main day we praying to the God in Family Temple, Village Temple, and Clan Temple, if you visiting Bali in this day you will see many Baliness people in tradition uniform with their family bring 'sesajen' go to one temple to another
• Manis Galungan, is where a familiy visiting their relatives (like their grandmother, neighbour, brother, uncle) or a family go on holiday, i usually go with my friends if not visiting my relatives

in picture 1 we pray to our God when Galungan (not only when Galungan day we pray to our God like in the picture), picture 2 where the man made lawar (when Galungan 'lawar' usually i make with my father ,brother and mother (my parent work so hard until manis galungan..Great Parent :D) ) and in picture 3 that the village build 'Penjor' when Penampahan day

Hmmm, why ? i think because i was born there, somewhere in jembrana (one of district in west bali ) is gateway to enter bali from ground (like use bus or car or something like that :D), actually jembrana have alot of potential in tourism like in gilimanuk there is one building that called "Gelung Kori" that like statue of four dragon (arrrgh its very difficult to explain in english, i will upload the photos when i go home :D, now i'm somewhere out of my place) , the grand design is very beatifull, below the dragon statue , there is pool fill with lotus flower, and around it ,is the park , i remember when it first build was when i in elemntary school :D, i don't know why it's never completed, i wondered was it the leader change or because lack of money hmmm...,

Other places is the park (jungle actually) that use for conservation of Jalak Putih / Jalak Bali bird , the jungle is still natural so if you like outside adventure you can try this one, but i suggest you bring one of the guide in TNBB, because beside you can misguided, the jungle have a bit mystical side (like all jungle in indonesia)
